Surfing is all about freedom, and experiencing nature on its own terms. At Airstream, that’s what we’re about too, as well as inclusiveness. Exploring and living the outdoors is for everyone – and surfing is too. And for Roxy, it’s the girls and women who are at the forefront.
Last weekend – August 3rd and 4th – Roxy held the Roxy Montauk Classic at Ditch Plains in New York. The Classic was a ladies-only surf competition, with age group events from 6 years old to 30+. Cool and cloudy weather at Ditch Plains on day 1 of competition didn’t stop many from still making it out to the beach – and a beautiful Sunday encourage even more to join in the fun.
Competitors and spectators had a chance to meet some women’s surfing heroes – like five-time world champ Stephanie Gilmore, World Longboard Champion Kelia Moniz, and Monyca Bryne-Wickey. Throw in a raffle and a gang of Paul Mitchell stylists there to create summer ‘dos for long lines of fans, and the fun certainly didn’t stop at the water’s edge.
And as you might expect, Airstream was there too – we provided Roxy an Airstream trailer for the event. The wind in your hair, the spray of the waves on your skin. The thrill of trying to stay on the board, trying to stay upright, trying to stay on that wave. Surfing is one of the most intimate ways you can experience nature, and it’s one of the most thrilling too. If that sounds like living riveted, well, we thought so too.
