A Land Yacht, not just by name

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

A marriage forged in Airstream

Love is in eternal bloom. In 1960, Wally Byam had a party to celebrate the marriage of Art and Toni. Somewhere on the African Caravan they fell in love and were married. Secretly! No one knew. So in Venice, Italy their marriage was announced, the Caravanners gathered to celebrate and Wally rented the wedding gondola.

The story doesn’t begin here at Dulles International Airport, located in Chantilly, Virginia. The Foundation spanned 15 years from 1962 to 1977.

At Airstream we’re very proud of our construction processes and product quality, and why wouldn’t we be? Approximately 70 percent of the Airstream travel trailers ever built are still on the road. And you can expect that a new Airstream is just as tough as one that founder Wally Byam himself could have designed.

Airstream History Embodied in the Classic Line

The Airstream name has existed for nearly a century, and when you look back to the beginning of the company, there’s something you notice. While there have been numerous advances in technology, construction, and style since 1931, we have maintained basically the same look when it comes to our trailers. It’s not because we’re stubborn – it’s because that design has stood the test of time, and helped us outlive most of our competition.
